jumbo bluefin

The news of the day is deffinitely the capture of 90.6kg and a 61.6kg bluefin down in tassi by the boys on Sniper - not a bad effort for some NSW boys to tow their boat down and score!

In victoria the bluefin have been up and down and are all small schoolies.

Pete Dawson fished south of Botany for some rat kings and snapper to 3kg, while I am also hearing reports of some bigger kings off the cliffs south of the Hacking.

Sydney Harbour is still producing a few kings, while out the front I am hearing the odd rumour of bigger fish but no pics!

bermi has the tournament this weekend and with reports of the longliners getting some fish wide hopefully I will have a heap to report. Further north the water is forming up good off Port Stephens. Off SE QLD there still seems to be a consistent blue marlin bite.

big tuna on the cube

I got word yesterday of a couple of big fin caught off Eden in the 60-70kg range. they were caught cubing.

Fished sydney yesterday for a few rat kings and some huge salmon. The guys fishing the harbour did better with a few fish to 90cm however they did work hard for them.

The blue marlin bite still seems to be going steady off SE Queensland and i also heard a few tuna caught wide off Port Stephens for the longliners as well.

harbour fires

Well the fishing offshore still seems to be slow with everyone including the commercial crews struggling for tuna. In Victoria the bluefin are still running but the place is packed with trailers. Alternately Tassi is loaded with school fish and the odd big jumbo around Tasman Island.

Sydney Harbour is still producing kings and jews as well as salmon and tailor. Out the front the kings have been slow but Scotty on the Flying Fisher is catching some nice up at Terrigal.

I fished the Hawkesbury last night with Shannon the hairy guru for jews but instead caught a million pike eels and a whaler shark

bloody jews

Fished today with justin kelly to get some bait for jewie fishing and filming tomorrow. Got some bait and then had a cast after marking up some fish and hooked a bloody jew - would have made great footage!

Few kings around in the Harbour but out the front it was slow. Further north I am still hearing rumours of decent kings north of Port Stephens while at foster there have been a few spaniards. It is similar up the coast where there are still mackerel comming in at Coffs

Down south the bluefin bite is still on in Tassi as well as Victoria.

kings and lobsters

sorry guys I have been flat stick filming so I have been a bit slack with keeping reports up to date.

Okay first the awesome tuna bite at bermi was all too brief and only lasted a couple of days but there were some big fish and rumour has it there are some more further south so fingers crosssed it kicks into gear in the next week.

Further south the big bluefin are still biting pretty good in tassi whiel Victoria's west coast has been a bit slow but at least there are some good snapper still in Port Phillip.

Fished Jervis bay the last few days for heaps of kings in the 80cm -95cm range but Sydney has been a bit slow although there does seem to be some good reports from down south of Botany Bay. Offshore the fish has been slow.

Oh and finally fished for jewies the other day and caught one but was more excited about the 3kg lobster on a line!

big kings and tuna

Well I fished sydney today and found the water was still crap. Missed one fish which looked to be a shark and that was about it. Further nort Flying Fisher run of good fish slowed and he only managed one decent king off Terrigal today. Further north there are good reports of snapper and big kings north of Port Stephens as well as down south around jervis bay.

for those excited about the tuna there has been a run off yellowfin off Bermi on the south coast, while the big bluefin are snapping down in Tassi. The best fish I have heard from local charter boat operator Stu Nicholls is 116kg which is the biggest so far this season. Only small bluefin still comming in in Victoria

snapper and tuna

Well I have been a bit busiy away filming for the new series and haven't updated my blog for a while.

Okay there have been some nice cobia at Foster but we arrived to find the water had cooled down. There were still heaps of snapper and trag around though. Offshore the current is raging and quiet.

Further north the mackerel and spotties are slowing down off Coffs Harbour but the snapper are still kicking big time and there are heaps of longtails and mack tuna around as well. Offshore the blue marlin bite has slowed considerably

Like a broken record the bluefin are still biting their heads off in Victoria

hairy times

For something different we hit the harbour and after a few pointers form Nick at Fishabout we got stuck into the hairtail. For something I have never done it was pretty exciting expecially when you have to do it on camera. The water is still very dirty but we did catch bream flathead, tailor and salmon as well.

Offshore reports were extremely poor with next to no king and offshore all I heard was one marlin hook up. Even the longliners are struggling!

Down south there are still heaps of small bluefin around Portland but still no more jumbos reported in!

hard fishing

Went for a run today in crap conditions to find no kings at all and filthy water. Planing to head offshore for a change of scenerey tomorrow - bring on the tuna!

Bluefin still running in victoria but all small fish so far.

Coffs is still reporting mackerel in close and a few longtails as well.
