be afraid very afraid of the greens
Here are some quotes by members of the Greens - in essence they demise NSW's 900,000 anglers
'ensure that the National Representative System of Marine Protected Areas program has legislated targets of a minimum of 30% ‘no take’ areas per bioregion by 2012'.
And if you think your safe in the fresh.... 'implement a Comprehensive, Adequate and Representative (CAR) system of reserves for Australia’s unique and high conservation value freshwater ecosystems, and fully protect rivers that still have natural flow regimes'.
'a strategy to maintain adequate, biologically representative ‘no-take’ areas within each fishery and/or marine bioregion for the conservation of marine biodiversity and fish stocks'.
'expand fisheries assessments to all Australian fisheries, including recreational fisheries, and develop and implement a national framework for managing recreational and charter fishing'.
'increase the number of Australia's marine reserves, particularly where these improve the resilience of vulnerable fish populations'.
'maintain adequate, biologically representative ‘no-take’ areas within each fishery and/or marine bioregion'.

Ian cohen is serious anti fishing - The following one statement was quoted by Ian Cohen on 30 Nov. 2002 from a note from Mr Ron Billyard, Planning Officer, Solitary Islands Marine Park in the Coffs Harbour area:
- The very small group of fishers, commercial or otherwise, affected by the fishing closures required by sanctuary zones, are unlikely to suffer.
- I put it to you both that while you represent responsible recreational fishing bodies there is a lot of irresponsibility in the recreational sector of fishing.(Ian Cohen 19 April 2010)
- The problem with a great deal of recreational fishing is the vast number of people all innocently taking what might be within the bag limit, but it is a mass practice .(Ian Cohen 19 April 2010)
- In actual fact, in many instances the take of the recreational fishers collectively is very significant and there is the damage done by overfishing with recreational fishers as well .(Ian Cohen 4 May 2010)
- Would you not agree that although there are those in the fishing fraternity that are conservationists there are also a significant number of people who just go for it and get what they can,..... would you not agree there is anarchy out there if we do not have regulation or degrees of control? .(Ian Cohen 4 May 2010)
- but the Government should be wary of accepting at face value the claims of fishing licence holders that they have been affected by closures in sanctuary zones of marine parks. All such claims deserve careful scrutiny.
Ms LEE RHIANNON [3.34 p.m.]: I support the comments of my colleague the Hon. I. Cohen, who has outlined the Greens position on the proposed legislation. Like many of us, my home is beside the sea. Therefore I welcome these moves by the Government, even though they are limited in part. I was particularly pleased to see that it will no longer be necessary to get the approval of the owners and occupiers of a piece of land that is below the mean high-water mark if that land is to be put into a marine park.
Why is it then that the Government continues to flow against the scientific community by not increasing sanctuary zones within New South Wales marine parks? (page 22): Mr IAN COHEN: Select committee on recreational fishing At Sydney on Monday 19 April 2010
Dont vote green if you value your right to fish!
