nature conservation council attack recreational anglers
The Shooters and Fishers party finally put a stop to any more poorly planed marine parks but it seems that clever management isnt on the agenda for the NSW Conservation Council who have to rely on overseas scientific papers to support their case. Maybe we need some local work down so we can really look after it. Lockouts arent the answer proper management focusing around spawning seasons, catch and release zones etc is.
Marine ecosystems threatened by five year freeze on marine parks The NSW Shooters Party has introduced a Bill to place a five year moratorium on the creation of new marine parks and new sanctuary areas within existing marine parks. The Labor Party has offered their in principle support for the moratorium, as long as it excludes changes to the zoning plans for Solitary Islands and Jervis Bay marine parks.
This proposal displays a clear disregard for the scientific evidence of more than 300 international papers that marine parks, particularly no-take or sanctuary zones, are a vital tool for marine conservation.
Debate on the Bill has been delayed until 31 August, so we must act now to ensure our marine plants and animals have safe havens, and that our threatened and overfished species have a chance to recover.
