Tuna time!

Tuna mayhem
I just cant get over how amazing the tuna run has been this season. It really has been nothing short of staggering and so far I have achieved a PB bluefin, yellowfin and then topping it off with the huge bigeye for the Strikezone team off Sydney. However it doesn’t stop there because then we took it one step further ...

Late start for the marlin
February really is the peak of the offshore season and with everything appearing to be running late this year things are looking good. At present there is a good bite of small blacks on the Gold Coast. This is certainly wasn’t predicted but it is still a good sign. Chances are they will be he ...

January is looking good

The water temperature is starting to jump up and the current is pushing hard down the coast bringing with it all types of tropical delights. At the time of writing the water is up around the 22-24 degree mark and reports are starting to flood in.

Already there are reports of smaller mahi stacking up around the FADS and fish traps off Sydne ...

Offshore set to improve
The offshore scene has been slow to put it bluntly and things are only just showing signs of improving. The Hervey Bay tournament held in November showed there is some red hot fishing on its way down – hopefully! There were good numbers of blue marlin out wide over the canyons with most boats finding multiple f ...

Offshore looking to improve
Spring is can be unpredictable time offshore anglers. On the south there are some reports of yellowfin and albacore wide off Jervis Bay. The best approach at this time of year I recommended trolling with a mix of deep divers and jet heads like the new Strikezone series. The key is to travel at speed to cover as m ...

odd marlin but good kingy season

Early marlin
Well I was out chasing snapper for an episode of River to Reef’s new series and ended up catching a marlin. Fishing off Crowdy Head we found the snapper were seriously dead and with the pressure of filming upon us I headed wide for some bar cod action which was also crap. I don’t handle failure well so I was slowly ...

Spring time delights

Winter kings
The last month has pretty average. The tuna are north and now the kings have slowed down off Sydney. But it is not all bad because spring is around the corner and this means lots of new exciting options from fisho's.

There have been some mako sharks off Sydney. Andrew Hestelow went for a bot ...

Kings running big time
Typically during the winter months there are lots of kings around including some big heavyweights. For me I have had some of my best sessions every and best of all we got all the action on film for the latest Strikezone DVD. Live baiting and jigging the reefs in 20-30fathoms we had a series of unreal sessions catching ...

bluefin time

I predicted we would see a good bluefin season this year in NSW and boy was that an understatement. I have just fished Bermagui with Craig and Brad Rushby and managed three bluefin in the 50kg range. For 12 year old Brad it was an awesome capture an definitely worth missing school for! After a stint at the Melbourne boat show displaying the brand n ...

bluefin comming and fin here

Exciting times
Well what a wild season. Last year I was catching heaps of tuna at this time, yet this year it is all kings. I have been focusing on the inshore reefs off Sydney and have been nailing some great fish up to around 10kilos. Jigging has been producing a majority of the fish, but the livies have been getting the biggest fish. I hook ...

Tuna seasons looks good
I have just returned from a offshore from Sydney with 2 nice fin in the 35kg range. The seaqson has started  well and we are finding some nice fish although the numbers seem to be down a bit. Last week I fished down at Jervis Bay and scored a number of fish in the 30kg range on the cube as well as trolling up so ...

Port Stephens finally picks up
Finally it seems Port Stephens has finally got a half decent marlin bite going. The fish have all been on the Carpark (33 02 South 80fathoms) with most the action centered around the massive bait schools. Live baiting and skip baiting have been working well and a lot of b ...

longliner issues
Firstly I must appologise for not getting a report out for some time but as you can see now i have also encorporated a blog into www.almcglashan.com to keep everyone up to date.

The sensational marlin bite at Jervis Bay has slowed considerably. This is largely due to the longliners smashng them.  There was a ge ...

McGlashan’s fishing report

Marlin season looks good
There are a few marlin in the 40-60 fathom range right of Sydney. Most are stripes as well as the odd black marlin which certainly bodes well for the festive season. I also heard a report of a spearfish being caught which is extremely early for this enigmatic species.

Fur ...
